Advertising and Sponsored Content Policy
Xiam displays advertisements within the Discover feed and Stories, served through Google AdMob. This policy explains how advertising works on Xiam, what standards ads must meet, and how it relates to your Privacy Policy rights. See our Privacy Policy for how data is collected and used in connection with advertising.
1. Current Status
Xiam shows third-party advertisements as follows:
- Discover: a sponsored native ad is shown periodically within the Discover video feed, clearly labeled "Sponsored" and styled to fit the surrounding feed.
- Stories: a full-screen sponsored ad may appear between different users' Stories, clearly labeled "Sponsored."
Ads are not shown in direct messages, your profile, comment sections, or while composing a post.
2. Advertising Standards
Ads shown on Xiam:
- Are clearly labeled as advertising or sponsored content, distinguishable from organic content
- Comply with all applicable advertising standards and consumer protection law in the jurisdictions where they are shown
- Are not targeted based on sensitive categories (such as inferred health conditions, sexual orientation, or religious belief) in ways prohibited by applicable law
- Do not promote content that would otherwise violate Xiam's Community Guidelines (e.g., no ads for illegal goods, sexual content, or dangerous organizations)
Prohibited and Restricted Advertising Categories
Xiam restricts advertisements relating to:
- Illegal goods or services
- Pornographic or sexually explicit material
- Dangerous organizations or extremist content
- Fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading products or services, including "get rich quick" schemes
- Gambling and betting
- Alcohol, dating services, weight-loss products, and drugs/supplements
- Political and religious advertising
- Products or services targeting minors in an inappropriate manner
- Any advertisement inconsistent with Xiam's Community Guidelines or applicable law
These restrictions are enforced through advertising-network-level content controls, in addition to Xiam's own review rights.
3. Sponsored/Branded Content by Creators
Xiam does not currently offer a feature for Creators to post sponsored or branded content (content created in exchange for payment or other consideration from a third party). If this changes, we will require clear sponsorship disclosure, compliance with applicable advertising disclosure law (such as Nigeria's Advertising Regulatory Council requirements, where applicable, and equivalent rules in other markets where Xiam operates), and compliance with all other Xiam content policies, and will update this policy accordingly.
4. Data Use for Advertising
To select, deliver, and measure ads, our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may process advertising identifiers, approximate location derived from IP address, and ad interaction data, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your personal information to advertisers.
You can limit ad personalization through your device's ad settings (for example, "Opt out of Ads Personalization" on Android, or by declining the App Tracking Transparency prompt on iOS). See our Privacy Policy for full detail.
5. Suspension or Discontinuation of Advertising Programs
Xiam reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any advertising, sponsored content, or creator-brand partnership programs at any time, subject to applicable law.
6. Political and Religious Advertising
Xiam does not currently permit political or religious advertising, and blocks these categories at the advertising-network level. If this changes in the future, additional policies governing disclosure, transparency, advertiser verification, and record-keeping will apply and will be published separately.
7. Status
This policy is in effect. We may update it from time to time as our advertising program evolves; material changes will be communicated in-app or via an update to this policy and our Privacy Policy.
